This was an accidental find. We were attempting to visit a cafe in Jonesboro, but without reservations ther was no table to be had. After contemplating a long wait we walked across the street and spotted a sign that said Dogwood Lane. The first thing we noticed was the lack of customers on a Saturday night, which almost caused us to turn and regroup, but then it occurred to me that this is exactly what we are looking to try. I am glad we decided to go in. The dining room was very casual with a TV playing on the wall, but the upside was we could sit anywhere we wanted. The "pit master" greeted us and told us about the freshly smoked ribs available on Friday and Saturday night. The waitress seemed new and a little disorganized, but she was very nice and attentive. So what did we order?

I had the half rack of ribs with two sides (
baked beans and red dill potato salad) for $12.95.

First the ribs, they were smoked with a Memphis style dry rub that had the perfect bite without lingering heat and were extremely tender and moist. I was getting happy until I tasted the baked beans, which were good but not to the level of the ribs and had a spice that I could not pick out. Then the red dill potato salad, wow, I have never had dill in potato salad and was afraid it would overpower the other ingredients. This was one of the best potato salads I have ever eaten.

My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with 1 side (fries) for $6.95 and added another side (slaw) for $1.99.

Well, just like the ribs, the pulled pork was seasoned well, tender and juicy. The smoke flavor was not overpowering and added to the overall flavor. The sauce was Carolina style red sauce and was sweet with a little bite, but once again the heat did not linger. The fries were the larger cut and crispy and the slaw was the sweeter style that was very good.

As we were paying the check we learned that the sign had not been changed and this was The Creekside, good information. I hope they get the sign changed when the weather gets better so people can find this place. It was an unexpected treat and I will have to say that I was a bit surprised at how good the food was. Just goes to show that cannot pass judgment until you taste the food. We had a good meal and the check with tea and soda was under $25.00.

Excellent food at an excellent price!
